LOS ANGELES Omnicom's Cutwater this week released a new viral video for Ray-Ban from Ben "Benzo" Kaller, the director of the popular "Catch" viral.

"Catch," which generated 2.7 million views on YouTube and scored a recent Cyber Lion at Cannes, will be a tough act to follow. Kaller's second video, "Bobbing for Glasses," starring Kaller and his creative partner Steve Hanft, shows the pair dunking their heads into water buckets and surfacing with pair after pair of Wayfarers instead of apples.

"I hope people will wonder how we were able to do it," said Kaller. "Everyone likes a magic show and humor."

After countless speculation about how he created the "Catch" video, in which actors "caught" pairs of glasses on their faces in improbable fashion, Kaller is looking to build some mystery around "Bobbing." Like Hitchcock's Rope, the new clip is supposed to come off as one long take, so Kaller won't acknowledge anything but "rehearsal days" of plugged ears and water-blurred eyes. So he's not giving up the trick, not even disclosing the number of shooting days.

Kaller, 30, typically shoots publicity stills, though he also made music videos for Fatlip ("Worst Case Scenario") and Princess Superstar ("Bad Babysitter"). He was on the set of Jackass Number Two as a still photographer (he still works for The Closer in that capacity, he said). Kaller was conscripted into the movie when he got punked by the creators and had his hair cut off while the camera rolled. Kaller is somewhat taken aback by the success of "Catch" and said he is "very busy" writing treatments for other potential viral videos.

"Worldwide, we're to up to about 11 million views on 'Catch,' " said Josh Warner, president of Feed Company, Los Angeles, which seeded both "Catch" and "Bobbing for Glasses."

"It's hard to strike lightning twice," Warner said. "But we had a great response to Benzo and Steve as characters, and the agency felt they wanted to keep the conversation going, which I really admire as a strategy."

"To some extent, I'm curious to see how popular it becomes," said Kaller. "But I'm mostly happy not to be dunking my head in buckets anymore. Steve and I are like recovering dunkoholics."

<![CDATA[Omnicom Group's Cutwater has won Arnette sunglasses, its third Luxottica Group brand, following a review, the agency confirmed.

The San Francisco shop already represents Luxottica's Persol and Ray-Ban, for which it launched the "Never hide" campaign. The Arnette global assignment is expected to include print, out of home, online and viral marketing.

Cutwater pitched in the finals against the New York advertising design collective 2one5 and Akestam Holst of Stockholm, Sweden, according to the agency.

Cutwater ecd Chuck McBride said the creative differentiation among the three brands would be based on "their different audiences: Ray-Ban reaches into the general audience; Persol is much more exclusive, a refined piece of equipment with craftsmanship and a higher price; and the Arnette user is off doing extreme sports, from racing in Spain to surfing in California. It's a much more countercultural brand. They've all occupied different parts of my life. They are distinct by nature. It's going to be fun."

McBride said that the client approval process is under way, with the first work expected to launch in the next few months. Because of a small budget, he said viral components would be important to the Arnette push.

Cutwater president Brad Harrington said that Arnette is "a brand that many of us 3S (skate, surf and snow) guys grew up with. It has a great history and it's brand that's ready to be rediscovered by the young at heart."

<![CDATA[DETROIT – Attempting to stand out in a market crowded with SUVs and 4x4s, Jeep offers a new tagline in a brand campaign breaking July 1 via Cutwater, San Francisco.

“Have fun out there. Jeep” will lead the effort that focuses on the brand’s seven vehicles, and stresses the Jeep driving experience.

The campaign launches with out-of-home via billboards, bus wraps and posters in 12 major metro areas featuring something Jeep is calling ‘Fun wheels,” items such as soccer balls, kayaks and picnic baskets on wheels that will be used in images for the campaign. That phase of the rollout will also include four 15-second TV spots and a Web page, Have Fun Out There.com.

In mid-July, two national TV spots, “Jeep heritage,” will break in :60 and :30 versions. Placement includes ABC’s Desperate Housewives, NBC’s ER, and major cable networks including E!, VH1 and Food Network. Ads in major lifestyle and finance magazines will also run in August books. Copy in that touts the Jeep manufacturing center in Toledo and outlines the history of Jeep.

Another TV spot, “Sandbox,” launches in early August, showing all of Jeep’s seven new products playing together in a giant sandbox. A national print ad, headline, "7 vehicles. 1 purpose," will also run in early August.
The new brand campaign is the first creative from Omnicom’s Cutwater. BBDO Detroit is Jeep’s primary agency.

Jeep spent $358 million last year on ads, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus. Through April, Jeep’s spend as been $102 million.

Jeep sales are up 12.2% through May, per Autodata, Woodcliff Lake, NJ.

The Cyber Lions' shortlist, announced this morning, includes 30 in the viral video category, dwarfing other categories.

The jury, led by Saatchi & Saatchi's worldwide creative director for interactive and emerging media Tom Eslinger, also shortlisted eight entries in the viral marketing category.

This year's finalists include the highly touted "Evolution" video from Ogilvy & Mather in Toronto, an effort for Dove showing how a plain Jane is made into a model. Also on the list: recent YouTube sensation "Sunglass Catch" by Cutwater promoting Ray-Ban sunglasses, as well as earlier hit "Tea Partay," done by Bartle Bogle Hegarty for Smirnoff Raw Tea.
